Recipe | Homemade Jerk Chicken Wings with Basil Ranch Horseradish Dipping Sauce

Superbowl is right around the corner! And do you know what that means??

You get plenty of Superbowl friendly recipes coming at you for the rest of the week! Doesn’t that sound like fun? First up, we have my own little rendition of a classic Jerk marinade. YUM!

Homemade Jerk Chicken Wings with Basil Ranch Horseradish Dipping Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 – 2 lbs organic chicken wings (drumettes and banjos)
  • 1 small red onion, peeled & quartered
  • 1 in fresh ginger, peeled & quartered
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1 handful fresh thyme, stems & leaves
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp unfiltered apple cider vinegar
  • 1 habanero pepper (scotch bonnet) – use sparingly if you’re sensitive to heat
  • 1 bunch green onions (white part only)
  • 2 tsp ground allspice
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 lime juiced, plus 1/2 for garnish
  • 1 blood orange juiced
  • Coarse salt and freshly cracked black pepper

For the dipping sauce

  • 5 fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp horseradish
  • Coarse salt and freshly cracked black pepper

Method

Combine ingredients, except chicken, into a food processor or blender. Blend/process until pureed. Taste and adjust seasoning, as necessary. 

Place chicken in an airtight, non-permeable container, and cover in marinade. Mix the chicken around thoroughly to ensure each piece has contact with the marinade. Cover and let sit 4 hours, but preferably overnight. 

Preheat oven to 400F. Cover a baking sheet in aluminum foil (for easy clean-up) and place a rack inside a baking sheet. Place the marinaded chicken on the rack – this will ensure air-flow and even cooking. Toss the chicken in the oven for 45 minutes. Sprinkle with a little fresh lime juice, to finish. 

Dipping sauce; combine basil, ranch, mayonnaise, Dijon, and horseradish in the base of your hand blender. Blend until smooth. Season with S&P. 

Serve chicken wings hot with some classic crudité and a side of dipping sauce. They will be a game-day delight!
