LIFESTYLE | #TravelTuesday | How to Wanderlust in at Home

I keep writing these #TravelTuesday ‘s but often forget that we’re not all going to be taking a huge vacation this year. Whether you’re having a baby, saving up for a game-changing year, or just simply not hitting the vacate button, this one is for you. It’s not healthy to keep your wanderlust at bay, so here are several things you can do, to feed your sickness while you’re counting down the minutes until your next adventure.

PS. I’m happy to announce that All in Moderation has been chosen for Feedspot’s Top 100 Healthy Lifestyle Blog & Websites. This is SO exciting!! Thank you for supporting this initiative, all of you. It’s been a wild ride. 🙂

Create Lists

If you don’t have an adventure planned, create a list of places or destinations you want to do. Grab a world map (and a glass of wine), and spend some time pin-pointing where you want to go. Scour Facebook or Twitter for hashtags, to ensure the photos are doing it justice. OR grab the encyclopedia (ancient, I know), and brush up on your history. Create a travel list, in order of importance, and watch the planning of your next adventure come to fruition.

Setup Airfare Alerts

There are SO many businesses that solely deal in seat sales. Mark and I are big fans of Expedia. We use the Deals page, almost exclusively when booking trips. And it helps the amount of points we rack up doing so – sometimes we even get a free/discounted night at a hotel, just by using those points. You could also sign-up for travel newsletters so that as soon as a great airfare or travel deal is released, you’ll be the first to book it. Sometimes there’s a great deal on something you’ve never thought of before. Colombia was exactly that for my sister and I.

Research Destinations

Now that you have your travel list, why not spend the evening in front of your computer, checking out the destination. I love picturing myself in places, I will eventually travel to.

Post-Produce Your Travel Photos

Dive into that folder on your computer, titled “Amsterdam 2013”. Remember all of those photos you took of a vacation in the past that you haven’t look at in a while? There’s something so therapeutic about riffling though old travel photos.

Start Packing Now

Why do you think I post about “Packing List” ‘ s all of the time? I love “packing” when I’m not actually going anywhere. It ignites a sense of thrill for that time when I actually will be jumping on an airplane to my next destination.

Save Your Nickels

Points and Airmiles are great, but they can devalue over time, so be sure to use them within their allotted time. If you’re planning for a trip next year, fantastic, use those points! But if it’s more like two or three years away, toss a couple bucks aside each month. In the end, the blow to your bank account will be much less, than if you didn’t save your nickels.

Nothing will ever be the same as vacating your life for the exciting and unknown, but sometimes we simply can’t do it. And when those times come, try the strategies above, and make the thought of not fulfilling your wanderlust, a little more easy to handle.

How do you satiate your wanderlust cravings in between vacations?
